Nutty Mochi

What can I do with some of the left over moonie filling I had? I made Japanese Mochi out of them and they tasted good. I couldn't stop myself eating them and my brother loved them too.
The filling was made of the white lotus paste with almond nuts and sesame seeds and dried orange peel. The skin recipe was obtained from Baking Mum's blog. Thanks LeeLee for sharing the recipe.

A whole lot of information and other Mochi recipes can be found in the website below ...

Below is the Mochi skin recipe I used ....

Japanese Crispy Seaweed

From a forum which I frequent, a mom introduced this snack to us members telling us how she loved snacking on this. I happened to chance upon this at Giant Tampines and the packet was banded with another snack. This was selling at $5.60 and has two flavours. The packet you see is the Tom Yum flavour while the other is the Wasabi flavour.

Actually seaweed is not my kind of snack . I bought this just to satisfy my curiousity. I remember eating the other kind of seaweed snack which my ds B loved when he was younger but I didn't particularly liked the taste because it tasted fishy and 'greeny'. However after eating this crispy seaweed, I liked it.

This seaweed tasted spicy and crispy and I supposed the clever use of tom yum spice has masked the fishy and 'greeny' taste and smell which I didn't like.
This is a new product in the market and I suppose I'm game to try the wasabi flavour too. How about you?

Chick Peas

Sometime ago at the M4M forum, a lady called B posted her steamed chick peas and the memories of this kacang came flooding back to me. This was my favourite whenever I had the chance to buy from the kacang puteh man some student days ago. Nowadays the kacang puteh man has became a rarity in the streets of Singapore as the government doesn't encourage street pedlars. I do see a new breed of kacang pedlars at the pasar malam stalls seller these steamed chick peas and peanuts.

This is easy to do .
I just soaked overnight the entire packet of chick peas in a large container with three times the volume of water and 1 tsp of tumeric and salt.
The next morning, I drained off the water and rinse the chick peas.
Putting the chick peas in a bowl, I covered them with just enough water.
I then added a tsp of salt before I put the chick peas in a boiling steamer.
Steam for about half an hour and check for chick peas softenening.
Once the chick peas softened, remove the container and cool.
It is then ready to be eaten by itself or put you can put them in a cucmber salad with Japanese mayonaise.
